About Joint Entrance Exam (IIT JEE)

Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) is an all India common entrance examination which is conducted for admission in various engineering courses. In 2012, CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education) has announced this common examination in place of AIEEE and IIT-JEE. JEE (joint Entrance Examination) is being conducted into two parts, JEE- Main and JEE-Advanced.

JEE-Advanced is for admission in Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and Indian School of Mines Dhanbad (now getting converted into IIT) & JEE- Main exam is to admission in IITs (Indian Institutes of Information Technology), National Institutes of Technology & CFTIs (Central Funded Technical Institute)

As IIT’s are the premier engineering and science colleges in India, the candidates have to clear the second level of exam JEE-Advanced for securing admission in them. Only top candidates of JEE-Mains are eligible to appear for JEE-Advanced exam. The candidates who clear JEE- Advanced exam have the opportunity to join either of the IIT’s.
